问题：I have to compare a Siemens S7 and a DeltaV automation system. The application will be with Batch S88.
What are the advantages of each system?
Comparison of application software engineering?
Comparison of initial against lifecycle cost?

I cannot speak for Siemens S7 but Delta V is a good product. Problem is "Get Your Wallet Out". They are terrible for license fees and the update and upgrade path is a nightmare.
I would also look at Rockwells offering in S88 batch.................DV is good but painfull and painfull to own. They do not like to hear it but we just finished a project that has been very painfull with numerous hidden costs and many extra's added after we were on the hook.
We beat the spec to death and really thought we had it nailed and yet hidden junk keeps showing up.
My suggestion, stay away from DeltaV, great MARKETING, average product.

In S7 Youy will have to use S7 400 System, WinCC AND then Simatic Batch.
Delta V would be cheaper and all in One, and would be a PC based system with I/Os ( Fix Based and more flex).
